Transportation

Transportation which essentially encompasses a broad array of activities and infrastructural facilities forms the backbone of any industrialised nation or city state. Envisaging the current impetus on infrastructure by the UAE government and nations worldwide, RAKIA embarked on this journey as well by instituting a strategic business unit geared towards building integrated multi-nodal transportation network in emerging markets through successful partnerships.

Hence RAK Trans was created to ensure that a consistent transportation strategy and core competence was developed in the operation of nodal points of transportation across sea, air, rail and road.

Its crown jewel is the Poti sea port; Georgia situated in the south Caucasus region of central Asia which RAKIA acquired as part of its strategy in the transportation space.

RAKIA also has ambitious plans to set up a port and a shipyard in India, one of the fastest growing BRIC economies. This facility will be coming up in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and will be complete in another 2-3 years time. For this purpose RAKIA has signed a Memorandum of understanding for a joint venture with the government of the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to construct the Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Port & Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project.
